8.5 Contemporary Anthropology

Q Goal The goal of this discussion is for you to learn about one example of contemporary applications of biological anthropology (anthropometry, forensic anthropology, or medical anthropology) and share what you've learned with your classmates. Prompts: Read one article about a case or example where anthropology was used to investigate or design something. You've seen a few examples in the reading. Those sites are also great places to do a keyword search for additional examples. You can also search on any of the following websites for examples. If you aren't sure, please message me for guidance. Google can work too; it just might take some careful search terms and critical selection of the example you chose. • ScienceDaily.comLinks to an external site. • Sapiens.orgLinks to an external site. • Anthropology NewsLinks to an external site. • CDC National Institute for Occupational Saftey and HealthLinks to an external site. Post #1 – Do by Wednesday 11 pm Write a paragraph explaining what you learned from the article and the example you chose to learn about. Include the link to your source. Post #2 – Do by Friday 11 pm Referring to the example you wrote about in Post #1 propose a follow-up question you have and what additional study or evidence you think would be helpful in answering that question. Reflect on how this case example could impact modern people's lives or understandings of ourselves, our history, our future. Post #3 – Do by Sunday 11pm Reply to a classmate reflecting on the example they shared. How does their example link with your example? How does their example impact modern people's lives? The September/October 2022, edition of the "Anthropology News" has the article column titled "METADATA" In the said column, Michelle .A. wrote an article titled "Monkeying Around" Michelle did not only emphasize the importance of play to both human and non-human primates, but how anthropology could be used to analyze data and also use it to design patterns. Michelle expounded on how Tristan, one of the 8 spider monkeys and his mother were foraging in the same trees as capuchin monkeys. Tristan wished to lure the older capuchin monkeys to a wrestling contest in which the latter initially showed little or no interest.
